Chapter I

On the practice of building well.

BuilderGuru was founded on the Chesapeake in 1985 with a single promise — build well, build truthfully, build to last.

Four decades later, the practice remains owner-operated. Our project leads are the same hands that walk the site, sign the change orders, and answer the phone at six in the morning when something needs to be made right.

We do not chase scale. We choose work where the brief is exacting, the program is meaningful, and the result is worth standing in front of.

Five rooms, five years, five reasons we are still here.

Sailor Oyster Bar

A weathered storefront on the Annapolis waterfront, asked to become the room every regular wanted to walk into on a Tuesday. We worked in lockstep with the design team for fourteen months — and built it three weeks ahead of schedule.

Ground-Up · Private Residence

Bay Manor

A waterfront site with an unusual program — a primary residence, a guest house, and a working boathouse — built as if it had always been there. Stone laid by hand, timber sourced within the region, a heating envelope rated for a future that does not yet exist.

Pearl

An Eastport room that asked for warmth — and for a hidden, working kitchen that punched far above its square footage. The result was a hospitality space that has not had a slow Saturday since opening night.

Timber Pizza

A modern wood-fired concept where the kitchen is the front of house. We built the brand's first Annapolis location from a shell — slab to certificate of occupancy in eleven weeks.

A building is not finished the day the doors open. It is finished the day a stranger walks in and feels at home.

Chapter III · Capabilities

Six disciplines, one standard of care.

Construction Management

Owner-side advocacy from concept through closeout — schedule, budget, and quality held in equal measure.

Design-Build

Single point of accountability for architecture and construction. Faster decisions, no compromise on craft.

Tenant Fit-Out

Restaurants, retail, and office interiors delivered to brand standard with minimal operational disruption.

Ground-Up

Site through punch — institutional, commercial, and select private residences of meaningful complexity.

Preconstruction

Constructability review, value engineering, and cost modeling before a single shovel breaks ground.

Pre-Engineered Metal

Industrial and warehouse structures engineered for speed-to-occupancy without sacrificing finish.

Chapter IV · From the Founders

A note on craft.

Forty years ago we framed our first project — a thousand-square-foot oyster bar on Main Street, in a town that did not yet have many. The owners were patient with us. We were patient with the work. The room is still there, still serving lunch.

In the years since, the practice has grown — four offices, two affiliated houses, forty thousand projects in the books — but the standard has not. A project is worth doing if the room will still be loved in twenty years. A project is worth doing if the owner is glad they hired us a second time.

Everything else is noise. We are not interested in noise.
